On November 27, at 6:30 PM, to a crowd of several hundred people, nearly one million lights will burst through the darkness and light up the night sky signaling the start of Glenwood Springs’ holiday season. Symphony in the Valley, the Roaring Fork Valley's community orchestra, presents "Beethoven Triple Delight," under the baton of guest conductor Kirk Gustafson, conductor of the Grand Junction Symphony. The all-Beethoven program includes Symphony No. 8 in F Major and the Beethoven Triple Concerto in C Major for Violin, Cello and Piano. Soloists for the Triple Concerto are Carlos Elias on violin, who is the orchestra's conductor and music director and a violin soloist in his own right, his Argentinian wife Andrea Arese-Elias on piano, and Susan Salm of the Raphael Trio on cello. The Board of Directors of the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association, the chamber Ambassadors and the chamber staff will be hosting December’s Business After Hours mixer on Friday, December 4th at the chamber, located at 1102 Grand Avenue .

All chamber members and their guests are invited to stop in between 5 and 7 p.m. for food and holiday cheer.

Visitors will enjoy appetizers, the lighting of the community Christmas tree, caroling, complimentary food and drinks, networking opportunities and a visit from Santa Claus.

The Frontier Historical Society will relay the charming story about the town's most famous Christmas tree, which sits in front of the chamber. The tree was dedicated in the 1930s to Schwarz as one of Glenwood Springs' most beloved residents.

Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race is Dec. 6 at Sunlight

The 18th annual Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6, at Sunlight Mountain Resort. The 8K race winds through Babbish Gulch on Sunlight’s cross country trails. The race begins at 10 a.m., with awards and a prize drawing afterwards.

Pre-registration can be done at Summit Canyon Mountaineering for $20 and $22 day-of race registration can be done at Sunlight’s day lodge, beginning at 9 a.m. Registration includes a T-shirt and a goodies bag. The cut-off date for pre-registration is Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.

Some snowshoes will be available for the race, which benefits the animal shelters of Garfield County (C.A.R.E., Valley Animal Rescue and Rifle Animal Shelter). Walkers and runners are welcome to support the county’s four-legged friends.
